      Dental Sealants Dubai

      Dental Sealants

Your child's shield against tooth decay.

Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of your child’s back teeth (molars and premolars). They are desgined to act as a shield, creating a smooth surface over the natural pits and fissures in these teeth.

At Drs. Nicolas & Asp Centers, our Specialist Pediatric Dentists use sealants to help prevent food and bacteria from collecting into the crevices of children’s teeth, and reduce their risk of cavities.

Studies have shown that sealants can protect against 80% of cavities in children’s molars, where 9 in 10 cavities occur. This added layer of defense is particularly beneficial during the cavity-prone years of childhood and adolescence, providing long-lasting protection when paired with good oral hygiene, regular check-ups and professional cleanings.

Incorporating dental sealants into your child’s oral care can save you time, money, and the potential stress of future dental treatments. Sealants are a simple yet highly effective way to protect your child's teeth, keeping their smile healthy and cavity-free.

      How are dental sealants applied?

The application of dental sealants is quick, pain-free,
and typically requires just one appointment with any of our pediatric dentists.
There's no downtime, so your child can return to school right away.

      1. The tooth surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and dried.
      2. An etching solution is applied to the tooth surface, allowing the sealant to bond better.
      3. The sealant is painted onto the tooth surface and hardened with a curing light.

When should my child get dental sealants?

Dental sealants are most effective when applied to a child’s permanent molars soon after they erupt. First molars typically come in around age 6, and second molars usually emerge around age 12.

Although sealants are primarily recommended for children, adults with deep grooves or pits in their teeth can also benefit from sealant application to prevent decay.

How long do dental sealants last?

Dental sealants typically last between 5 to 10 years, but their durability can vary depending on individual factors. Good oral hygiene plays a significant role in maintaining their longevity. Habits such as tooth grinding or chewing on hard candies or ice can cause sealants to wear down or chip prematurely.

During routine check-ups, your child’s pediatric dentist will evaluate the condition of the sealants and determine if they need repair or reapplication. This proactive approach helps maintain the protective barrier, ensuring long-term cavity prevention for your child’s teeth.

      Dental Sealants FAQs

Studies reveal that school-age children without sealants have almost three times more cavities than those who got their teeth “sealed”. Once applied, they protect the back teeth against 80% of cavities for two years and continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to 4 years.

Signs of damage include visible chips or rough edges, as well as sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. Regular dental check-ups are crucial for monitoring the condition of sealants and addressing any issues promptly.

While sealants are designed to last for many years, they are not invincible to wear and tear. Over time, they can become chipped or damaged. If a sealant becomes chipped or cracked, it can no longer protect your chilld’s tooth from decay and may trap food and bacteria in the tooth grooves, leading to decay.

Typically, dental insurance includes coverage for routine and preventive dental services, such as regular check-ups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants.
