      Orthodontic Headgear in Dubai

      Orthodontic Headgear

      Straighten your teeth more effectively.

In certain cases, braces alone might not address complex bite issues or effectively guide jaw growth. In these instances, our Specialist Orthodontists at Drs. Nicolas & Asp Centers may recommend a supplementary appliance known as orthodontic headgear.

      What is an orthodontic headgear?

Orthodontic headgear works in conjunction with braces to gently and precisely influence the movement of your teeth and jaws. "Headgear" is a collective term for orthodontic appliances, worn partly outside the mouth, that apply additional gentle yet continuous force to move the teeth properly and guide the growth of the face and jaws.

Headgear is typically recommended for children and adolescents who are still growing and have moderate to severe bite problems, such as overbites, underbites, or Class II malocclusions where the upper jaw and teeth are positioned too far forward relative to the lower jaw.

How often should headgear be worn?

The duration of headgear wear depends on a patient's case, but typically, orthodontists recommend wearing headgear for 12-14 hours per day, often during evenings and overnight. Consistent wear is crucial for achieving the desired results. Your orthodontist will provide specific instructions on the type of headgear you need and how and when to wear it to achieve the best possible results.

      Orthodontic Headgear FAQs

Initially, there might be some discomfort as your child adjusts to wearing it. However, it should not be painful. Your orthodontist can provide tips for managing any discomfort.

To adjust to wearing headgear, start with just 2 hours on the first day, then increase to 4 hours on the second day. For the first week, aim to wear it for 1 hour before bed and throughout the night. Afterward, gradually increase the wear time to the recommended 12-14 hours per day.

The facebow and straps should be cleaned regularly with soap and water. Store the headgear in a safe place when not in use.

Inconsistent wear can significantly delay treatment progress and may not achieve the desired results. It's crucial to follow your orthodontist's instructions.

Your orthodontist will typically schedule appointments every 4-6 weeks to monitor your child’s progress, make adjustments to the headgear, and ensure proper fit and function.

Yes, retainers are typically worn after headgear and braces to maintain the corrected teeth and jaw positions.
